Detection state unknown for some updates

$

Hi

I am trying to run reports on whether certain patches are applicable in my estate. However, running the reports results in large number of clients reporting 'Detection State Unknown'. However, I know the client has run a scan as it has already sent back data relating to other patches. I can also force a manual refresh of the scan using the control panel applet and check the logs to confirm the scan has completed successfuly.

However, I still receive 'detection state unknown'. This currrently represents over 50% of my servers.

Can anyone help as I am pulling my hair out with this?

Thanks

All Updates in SCCM Software Updates are set to expire

I ran into some errors with WSUS on our SCCM server.

All the updates in SCCM Software Updates are have set themselves to expire. This was caused by me uninstalling WSUS and then reinstalling it in hopes to fix other issues that have now affected SCCM.

The system will sync fine and no errors in the system status. If I try to force a download of any service pack (for example) a message box pops up displaying "All software updates are expired. The operation can't continue."

Is there anything I can do?

James

Computers failing to download updates during OSD

Hello,

I am having a problem with OSD and Updates installing. I see the following in the "All Status Messages from a Specific System", almost an hour since it changed:

Download of the content "49dece4c-f0e2-44d8-ac3f-76ab3713bbe1" - "1" has completed successfully.

Starting at 9:23, which is just before the status message updated, in the smsts.log I get this:

Execmgr.log last line is "Software Distribution is Paused," at 9:23.

CAS.Log hasn't moved since 9:24, last entry "Called Requestor for content download complete."

I do have KB2509007 installed on the computer through the task sequence using "PATCH="C:\_SMSTaskSequence\OSD\RC10000E\i386\hotfix\KB2509007\sccm2007ac-sp2-kb2509007-x86-enu.msp"" and have verified the UpdatesHandler.dll is updating to the version 4.0.6487.2188.

In the task sequence I have 2 updates tasks, basically update, reboot, update again. I am at a loss as to what I should do.

SCCM fails to download one or two updates

$

I have SCCM 2012 deployed and I've been using it now for about one year to deploy Software Updates to my servers and clients.  For the most part, it all works fine.  But, on some months, the Automatic Deployment Rule fails to download one or two updates.  All the rest of the updates are downloaded just fine, and my servers and clients pick them up just fine.

In the ADR screen, under "Last Error Code", I get 0X80072EE2.  This appears to be a network timeout issue.  But I find it strange that is happens almost every single month for just one or two updates.  And I've even tried to manually download it from the "All Software Updates" node and it also fails.

However, if I download it from IE, on the SCCM Server itself, it works just fine.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Please keep in mind that I am not an SCCM expert!

Thanks.

SCCM 2007: howto detect if client has failed windows update message in traybar?

$

Hi,

I would like to find out if a Windows Vista Client (member of SCCM 2007 environment), has messages in its windows tray of windows updates to install or failed installs.

I know, I could just go to the pc or remote control it, but can't do that each time we want to check this.
Practically in this case: a user mentions he had messages of failed installs, we corrected the problem but now I want to verify no messages appear anymore.

Please advise.

Failed to process CI Assignment changes - SQL ERROR, change will be retried on next processing cycle

Good Morning!

Current Configuration:

1. 1 Central, Primary Site; 1 Child Primary Site; 4 Child Secondary Sites (children of the Child Primary Site)

2. The Primary Site servers have the SQL server databases roles as well, so there are no connectivity issues between SQL and SCCM per site.

3. The Central Site (CEN), was recently upgraded from Server 2003 to Server 2008 R2 and the SCCM environment was migrated using a side-by-side migration.

4. We ran into several issues with the server migration, all of which have been remedied, EXCEPT for this particular issue.

5.  I am not sure if this issue is a by-product of a larger replication issue, but I wouldn't put it past it.

Here is what we have done to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Ran a site reset (reset permissions to ensure the accounts and servers have the adequate permissions to the SQL server database.)

2. Examined the CI_CIAssignments table on the SQL database on CEN (where the error is occuring) to ensure all CI Assignments exist.

3.  For purely informative purposes:  The CI_CIAssignments table is directly-related to the Software Updates --> Deployment Management SCCM node. The Deployment ID attribute are equvialent to the rows from the Assignment_ID column in the CI_CIAssignments table within SQL.  I have verified between the two Primary Site databases that the entries are in sync; HOWEVER,  there are some stale records that do not exist on the Primary Child Site.  My assumption is that this would be the case if, say, there were only one Primary Site server and Deployment Management objects were created/removed and then later a second Primary Site were brought online.  The objects that were created/removed prior to the second primary site server being brought online would never replicate from the parent primary site server as they are no longer relevant or in use.

Long story short, we are receiving the following error CIAMGR.LOG:

Once those *.CIN files are processed and the CIAMGR.LOG goes back to standard processing changes every 30 minutes, we receive the error posted above (Failed to process CI Assignement Changes - SQL ERROR).  This occursregardless of the existence of *.CIA manager files in the CIAMGR.BOX inbox.  You can force changes by dropping files in the box but the same result occurs (SQL ERROR).

Does anyone have any insight into what the generic "SQL ERROR" error can indicate.  My assumption is this is a SQL backend issue, but I don't know what to look for as far as corrupt rows or columns are concerned.

Ultimately this appears to be impacting the Software Update synchronizations between the two Primary Site servers.  When a synchronization is run on the Primary Site server, the child site server Deployment Management objects are not being sent the updates for the various objects.  If we manually change something (such as the Custom Severity attribute) on an update that is part of the Deployment Management object, this can force a *.CIN change, but not the *.CIA object change.

Any insight or assistance is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Why use of http and https port for Management Point(MP) and client communication in SCCM environment?

I have recently joined SCCM team in our company responsible for global management of more than 100000 desktops and laptops worldwide. During early disucssion with one of team member I came to know that client communication done with Management Point(MP) through use of http and https ports 80 and 443 ports respectively.

My question is "Why communication uses http/https port and why not other ports?"

Thanks in advance.

I'm running SCCM 2007 SP2 R3.  I've installed KB2734608 and run two full synchronizations.  In the product list for the Software Update Point Component, I see Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1, but not Server 2012 or Win 8.  Any ideas on what I should do to fix this?

Thanks

SCCM 2007 Compliance Reports and Update Lists

$

Bear with me, as I'm still relatively new to SCCM. We are running 2007 in our environment (a system which I inherited), and I am trying to get an accurate compliance report. The only Software Updates we are deploying are those categorized Critical, Security, Updates, and Update Rollouts. That said, if I run "Software Compliance A. - Overall Compliance" against the update list I've created, I have a number of clients which show as Non-Compliant. When I drill down into the report, I see that those machines listed as Non-Compliant are missing updates categorized as Feature Updates, Definition Updates, and other various categories. Essentially, it seems to me the compliance report is looking for all update categories as opposed to those in the update list. Can someone help me understand why this is, and how I can remedy the situation?

My end-goal is to get a report showing client compliance based on the updates we've deployed, and for those machines out of compliance, display which updates it lacks.

Hello.

I want to create Custom Report to Check Software Deployment Status for Specific Collection. (for a specific Deployment)

It should show How many Systems (just like status of advertisement)

  • Successfully Installed the Patch
  • Failed to Install the Patch

(and if its possible to add a no status/not run yet and details of the computers) :)

Using SQL Query or Is there any default Report in SCCM.

i tried this one :

but it is not what i am looking for.

thanks a lot,

SCUP 2011 and Large File Sizes

Hello.

I am hoping someone here can provide a definite answer on as to rather or not SCUP 2011 can support the signing and distribution of large files sizes.  Our scup publishes to wsus with sccm as the distribution mechanism of updates.  I've been using SCUP to package and deliver updates on a variety of different pieces of software without issues.  Recently though I tried to create two new updates one has a file size of 571mb's the other has a file size of 1.58gb.  Keep in mind I can publish updates that are of smaller size just fine.  It is just these two updates.  Both of these updates are failing with the following error:
