Windows 10 CU1 Maximum Run Time in ConfigMgr 2012

Hi,

This week it's our first Windows 10 Patch Tuesday and I have questions concerning the updates and the configuration needed in ConfigMgr Software Updates to have a happy successful patching month :-).

Cumulative update KB3081436 just got released this week and in the bulletin summary it says: "Windows 10 updates are cumulative. Therefore, this package contains all previously released fixes.".

So it means that everything in KB3081424 is also included which himself also include everything in KB3074683. So we end up with a bundled single update within KB3081436.

My first question is regarding the Maximum Run Time. Since it is not classified as a Service Pack, even though it feels like one, it has the default maximum run time which is 5 minutes. Is this enough or should I increase the time? Have anyone faced issues with the default 5 minutes maximum run time?

I'm asking because this have previously happen when Update 1 for Windows 8.1 came out and I remember having issues because it did not have enough time to install. Increasing the maximum run time to 60 minutes fixed the problem.

My last question is about future Windows 10 updates. I understand that this is a new OS which goes through new processes but I'm wondering if these bundling updates will become the new standard. Knowing this would certainly help to plan our patching process.

Thank you for helping out and sharing your thoughts.

Jonathan
